Swirling flow prediction through a diverging nozzle

  • 1. School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Oklahoma State Univ., Stillwater, OK

Description

A primitive pressure-variable finite difference computer code has been developed for calculating the flow aerodynamics of nonreacting turbulent swirling flows in a curved diverging nozzle. The flow turns from axial to radial direction as it passes through the expanding nozzle. The method and program involve a staggered grid system for axial and radial velocities, and a line relaxation technique for efficient solution of the equations. Turbulence simulation is by way of two equation k-ε model. The code produces as output the flowfield map of the nondimensional stream function, and axial and swirl velocity components. Parameters investigated include: swirl strength, different outer boundary geometries, and the presence of a downstream centerbody
