Experiments on hadrons in finite density medium
Description
We review experiments addressing in-medium modifications of vector mesons and discuss the observed effects in the context of spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry and meson-baryon coupling. Emphasis is first put on the ρ meson and its importance for the emissivity of hot and dense strong-interaction matter created in collisions of heavy ions. A second class of experiments addresses the φ mesons which is best suited for line shape measurements and has also been in the focus of absorption measurements. (author)
