Description

The possibilities of dating of biotites by Rb-Sr neutron activation method are considered. Dating by new Rb-Sr neutron activation method can by applied to samples having 0.2>=Rb/Sr>=3, that is a significant part of terrestrial and cosmic rocks and minerals. For samples having Rb/Sr>=3 nuclear reactions on thermal and fast neutrons are used: 85Rb(n,γ)86Rb → 19 days 86Sr and 87Rb(n,2n)86Rb →19 days 86Sr correspondingly. Age is estimated only from Sr isotopy. If Rb/Sr<=0.2 nuclear reaction 86Sr(n,p)86Rb is used and age is estimated from Rb and Sr isotopy. Isotopic composition of K is suggested to use as a neutron monitor. Isotopic analysis of Rb, Sr and K is reasonable to determine directly from the samples without chemical extraction. Primary experimental results for biotites with high Rb/Sr ratio are given in the paper
