Fragmentation in high energy pp interactions

Creators

Description

This chapter investigates the fragmentation process in the light of similarities discovered between x meson x-distributions and quantities derived from the seemingly disconnected domain of deep inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering. It points out that both quark structure functions and diquark-decay distributions fit the data, leading to rather different interpretations of the hadronic interaction process. Combinations of both approaches are investigated. It considers correlations with protons to further investigate the interaction mechanism, examines correlations in one of the fragmentation regions (same side correlations) for which a limited data sample is available, and considers three sets of predictions in detail and attempts to characterize the essentials of these models
