Description
The material, both observational and theoretical, that has been gathered on SN 1987A is reviewed. The key results as well as the areas where much remains to be learnt are highlighted. Areas discussed include stella evolution theory, the supernova event, the fireball, the adiabatic phase, the hydrogen recombination phase, the core diffusion epoch, the escape of X rays and gamma rays, instabilities in the ejecta and circumstellar matter. 92 refs., 1 fig
