Moessbauer measurements of iron-containing glasses and glass ceramics of the system MgO-Al2O3-SiO2

Description
Valence and coordination of iron ions in iron-containing glasses and glass ceramics of the system MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 are investigated by Moessbauer spectroscopy. The Moessbauer spectra are characterized by resonant lines of two-valent and three-valent iron ions whose areas in the spectra reflect the Fe/sup II//Fe/sub total/ ratio based on an intensity symmetric quadrupole splitting. The influence of iron ions on the crystallization process in glass ceramics is discussed
