Development of cylindrical and hyperbolic proportional chambers

  • 1. Joint Inst. for Nuclear Research, Dubna (USSR)

Description

The experiencies are reported in developing various design versions and process requirements for manufacturing cylindrical and hyperbolic proportional chambers. The count and background cylindrical characteristics of the chamber when it is filled with 79% argon and 21% carbon dioxide are presented. The chamber exposure at a reverse polarity current of 30 μA leads to a background degradation of several times. The chamber efficiency is found to be approaching 100% when 3.8-4.2 kV voltage is used. The cylindrical chamber time characteristics are ascertained to be similar to those of flat chambers
