Obtainment of the meteorological parameters of the Juragua-Cen location in order to evaluate the radiological impact

  • 1. Centro de Proteccion e Higiene de las Radiaciones, La Habana (Cuba)

Description

The Cuban climate is, in general, similar in all the territory, nevertheless there are factors, like the vicinity of warm currents, that have an effect on the western coast, and the mountains, which produce climatic particularities. According to the research achieved in the location zone, the Juragua Nuclear Power Plant, the climate is characterized by high temperatures, which present a little variation from one period to another. The average temperature of the coldest month (February), for the investigation period (1989-1993), was of 22.8 degC, with extreme minimum temperatures between 5-16 degC. The average temperatures of the warmest month (August) was of 27.3 degC reaching maximal temperatures up to 36.2 degC. The rain total fall is of 4496 mm, representing the 77% during the rainy season (May-October), comparing these output with the obtained in other accounts, these last are higher, classifying this 5 years of rainy due to the event Enos, which reported significant data of daily precipitations during the winter season of the years 1992-1993; May was the month where the total maximum of precipitations 861.3 mm was reached, meaning the 19.2% of all the period. The wind was characterized for weak, with inferior speeds to the 10 Km/h (2.80 m/s), with extreme maximum comprised between the 50 and 151 Km/h, with prevalence of the direction ENE. The distribution of cases for the different categories of stability does not show significant differences in the distribution of the gradations of stability for the different months of the year. The most frequent category is the neutral 'D'. The cases obtained with very stable category (G) coincide with terms of calm which imply a high factor of concentrations of pollutants in case of the expulsion to the atmosphere, this condition is repeated in a '10.15%'.
