Conversion of reactor DR 3 from highly to low enriched uranium

Creators

  • 1. Research Reactor DR 3, Riso National Lab., P.O. Box 49, DK 4000, Roskilde (Denmark)

Description

This paper reports on DR 3 which is a multi- purpose research reactor. The main tasks of the present and future programmes are neutron beam experiments and silicon transmutation doping. The reactor has recently been recommended by EC for use as a Large EC beam facility accessible for scientists from all EC countries. This may lead to extension of the existing cold source beam facilities and installation of a hot source facility. Conversion to LEU started Oct. 1988. The main safety aspects treated in the licensing process are described. The core will be fully converted to LEU Oct. 1990
