Description

A computer based control system for the tandem accelerator and the Tritron booster is under construction. It consists of many microcomputer and personal computer nodes interconnected by an ARCNET local area network. Each node is equipped according to its purpose with keyboard and screen or I/O-boards and is programmed from a file server so that it can perform its specific control or monitor task. As a program language and data communications language FORTH is used. FORTH commands can either be executed directly or compiled, so that the system is open to extensions at any time. A test ion source and three new beam lines in the experimental area are already connected to this system and are controlled in routine operation. (orig.)
