Mathematical basis for the application of probability theory to tracer kinetics
Description
A mathematically rigourous basis for the application of probability theory to transit-time studies in tracer kinetics is developed. A stochastic formulation for transit-time distributions of nondiffusible tracers is shown. The formulation relates the transit-time distributions with the structural characteristics of a flow system. Examples are given to illustrate the usefulness of the formulation for obtaining analytical forms of transit-time distributions through flow systems
