Cartridge for processing radioactive liquid waste

  • 1. Power Reactor and Nuclear Fuel Development Corp., Tokyo (Japan)

Description

In a cartridge prepared into a block while locally fusing glass fibers, glass fillers are filled in glass fibers. This can ensure an amount of glass required for vitrifying radioactive materials safely without supplementing glass materials from a separate supply source when radioactive liquid wastes are impregnated and melted under heating. Further, the increase of powder dusts caused upon charge of other glass materials can also be prevented. Since the glass fillers are filled in the glass fibers, the glass fibers serve as shock absorbers when impact shocks are applied, and the reduction of the strength upon falling can be decreased as less as possible. Further, the glass fillers are prevented from leaking upon handling. Accordingly, supply systems to the liquid waste processing facility can be arranged into a single system, to improve safety.
