Power market and climate protection. Transforming power supply until 2050. Final report

In order to achieve the (new) European climate targets, a power supply based on renewable energy sources is required. This study identifies cost-effective transformation paths for the German and European power supply that meet high environmental sustainability requirements. Scenarios map the development of the German and European supply system with ambitious CO${}_2$ targets under different framework conditions and identify efficient transformation paths until 2050. This makes it clear which of the very diverse technical options can be used when and to what extent. The substitution possibilities between the options and the complex interactions between all system elements are taken into account in the modelling.
