Accumulation of 210Pb by freshwater plants
Description
Accumulation of 210Pb by chara algae and higher aquatic plants and absorption of this radionuclide by algae in water with variable calcium content have been studied. High coefficients of 210Pb accumulation (315 to 3000 units) were observed in the plants under study. Algae can accumulate this radionuclide in higher amounts than higher aquatic plants. The uptake of 210Pb by freshwater plants seems to occur mainly through adsorption on their surfaces
