Evaluation test of the physical properties of the solidified simulated waste by hydrothermal solidification method

  • 1. Mitsui Shipbuilding and Engineering Co. Ltd., Tokyo (Japan)

Description

As an immobilizing and high volume-reducing technique of the low-level radioactive powdery waste generated from the reprocessing plant, hydrothermal solidification method has been developed. This paper covers evaluation tests of the hydrothermally solidified waste, either engineering-scale or up-scaled test, using simulated incinerator ash, and so on. As a result various mechanical properties are measured, and sufficient resistivities against radiation and heat cycles, and low leachability of the solidified product is observed. It is recognized that this is one of the most suitable methods for the immobilization of these wastes. (author)
