Extraction of silver with sulphoxides from thiocyanate media

  • 1. Sri Venkateswara Univ., Tirupati (India). Dept. of Chemistry

Description

Silver is well extracted by alkyl sulfoxides from 0.1M ammonium thiocyanate solutions at optimum concentrations of hydrochloric acid and perchloric acid. The distribution coefficient markedly depends on the thiocyanate concentration. The formation of complex acidic species, H[Ag(SCN)2], favours the extraction of the metal. The distribution depends on the nature of the diluent employed and also on the temperature of equilibration. (author)
