Transactions 2003 of the Royal Society of Canada Symposium on Energy, Environment and Society : Making Choices

Description

This conference focused on Canada's energy policy regarding global warming and the need to change the way we generate and use energy. It was initiated in response to the great deal of attention that the climate change issue is receiving from governments and environmental pressure groups. This conference provides a platform to debate leading issues, including the Kyoto Protocol. There is potential for significant economic opportunity in developing new technologies to meet the required reductions in fossil fuel emissions. Alternative energy sources can address the problems associated with the use of fossil fuels. The scientific challenges associated with anthropogenic climate change and other types of damage to the environment were also addressed. Carbon dioxide and natural gas-methane are the most significant greenhouse gases that are suspected of causing climate change. The conference featured 20 presentations, of which 4 have been indexed separately for inclusion in this database. tabs., figs
