Design considerations of an external electrostatic deflector system for a cyclotron beam

Description
An external electrostatic deflector system for cyclotron beam is reported. The various design considerations, of significance, are dealt with in detail. The maximum and minimum pulse amplitudes are derived in terms of the mechanical parameters of the deflector, the beam emittance and also the charge to energy ratio of the accelerated particle. The system has been tested and found to work satisfactorily for variable pulse widths in the μs range. (author)
