Structure in the giant dipole resonance of 16O: Evidence for a secondary doorway state from polarized-proton capture

Description
Sharp fluctuations in the coefficents describing the angular distribution and analyzing power in the reaction 15N(p/sub pol/,γ0)16O are observed near E/sub γ/MeV. These correspond to structure in the total cross section. All these structures can be fitted by introducing a narrow secondary doorway state interfering with the primary giant dipole resonance of 16O
