Description
In the gas-cooled fast breeder reactor the core, containing fissionable material, as well as the annular blanket region, consisting of fertile material, are cooled by separate flows of coolant. The flow from the bottom upwards and are mixed in the upper part by adding a coolant before they reach the hot-gas utilization plant. In order to increase the economy of the coolant cycle by saving pump energy the flow resistance in the hotter part of the core is increased. This is achieved by using fuel elements with porous walls and fuel particles coated with ceramic material. (DG)

Bei dem gasgekuehlten SB werden sowohl der Kernbereich mit Spaltmaterial als auch der ringfoermige Mantelbereich mit Brutmaterial durch separate Kuehlmittelstroeme gekuehlt. Sie stroemen von unten nach oben und werden im oberen Teil unter Zugabe eines Kuehlgases gemischt, bevor sie zur Heissgas-Ausnutzungsanlage gelangen. Zur Erhoehung der Wirtschaftlichkeit des Kuehlmittelkreislaufs durch Einsparung von Pumpenenergie wird der Stroemungswiderstand im heisseren Kernteil erhoeht. Dies gelingt durch die Verwendung von BE mit poroesen Waenden und keramisch verkleideten Kernbrennstoffpartikeln. (DG)Files
