Neutral hydrogen in the Magellanic system
Description
H I observations of the two Magellanic Clouds have revealed sufficient continuity between the SMC and LMC to warrant the couching of discussions in terms of a Magellanic system. The Bridge is one of the most striking features of this system; the fact that no stars have yet been found in the bridge, except in close proximity to the SMC, implies that the Bridge's gas is quite young. The contribution to deeper understanding which CO studies of Magellanic system structure can make are noted. The Magellanic system furnishes a major opportunity for study of the evolution of interactions in three-body systems. 28 refs
