Determination of isotope effects in the formation of sodium cryptates

In complexes of macrocyclic ligands, the high stability of the alkali complexes with simultaneous high exchange rate of the central ions is particularly noticeable. The linking of both properties enables one to expect a large equilibrium isotope effect. The complexing of 4,7,13,16,21-pentaoxa-1,10 - diaza-bicyclo-[8,8,5] -tricosan with 22Na+ and 24Na+ in methanol was investigated in this connection. The isotope ratio in the complexed and in the non-complexed part is determined using a radiochemical method of analysis to detect an isotope effect in this system. An equilibrium isotope effect of 10 +- 5% for 24Na+ is obtained. This effect is remarkably high. The result is discussed regarding the margin of error present and compared to isotope effects in other complexing reactions. (orig./LH)

Bei den Komplexen makrocyklischer Liganden ist die hohe Stabilitaet der Alkalikomplexe bei gleichzeitiger hoher Austauschrate der Zentralionen besonders auffaellig. Die Verknuepfung beider Eigenschaften leasst einen hohen Gleichgewichtsisotopieeffekt erwarten. Hierzu wurde die Komplexierung von 4,7,13,16,21-Pentaoxa-1,10 - diazabicyklo-[8,8,5]-tricosan mit 22Na+ und 24Na+ in Methanol untersucht. Zum Nachweis eines Isotopieeffektes in diesem System wird das Isotopenverhaeltnis im komplexierten und im nichtkomplexierten Anteil mit Hilfe eines radiochemischen Analysenverfahrens bestimmt. Man erhaelt einen Gleichgewichtsisotopieeffekt von 10 +- 5% fuer 24Na+. Dieser Effekt ist bemerkenswert hoch. Das Ergebnis wird hinsichtlich der noch vorhandenen Fehlerbreite diskutiert und mit Isotopieeffekten bei anderen Komplexierungsreaktionen verglichen. (orig.)
