Wave Activity of three Species Plasma under External Electric Field; Self-Consistent Simulation
Description
2.5 D kinetics of electrons, protons and drifting oxygen ions is simulated self-consistently. The simulation period equals thirty two electron plasma periods. Plasma is magnetized. Real mass ratios for ions are assumed. The characteristics of self-consistent e. m. field are presented for two cases: (A) no external electric field imposed on the plasma, (B) substorm associated electric field of minute scale is on. In case (A) Langmuir waves are excited. In case (B) Langmuir waves are absent and the power of the perpendicular component of the electric field is concentrated in electron cyclotron harmonics (ECH) bands. The results explain data from multipoint observations of a substorm reported by MAYNARD et al. (author)
