Valent state of iron europium and tin atoms in fluorides glasses

  • 1. AN SSSR, Leningrad. Fiziko-Tekhnicheskij Inst.

Description

Method of Moessbauer spectroscopy is used to investigate valent state of iron (3d-element) and europium (4f-element) in typical fluoride glasses and to compare their behaviour with that of nontransition element tin. It is shown that fluoride glasses under the given synthesis conditions may reduce iron and tin atoms. Moessbauer spectrum 151Eu in fluoride glasses conforms to presence of only trivalent europium, therewith spectral parameters are independent on glass composition. Proximity of spectra parameters in a glass and in EuF3 compound permits to make a conclusion on Eu3+ stabilization in the fluoride ions environment
