On propagation of high-temperature plasma region along z-pinch

Description

Analysis of the dynamics of the combustion wave propagation along the z-pinch was conducted in the framework of the two-temperature monoliquid hydrodynamics in quasi-two-dimensional approximation, i.e. only a uniform expansion of the plasma column was taken into account in the radial direction, and variation of all the plasma parameters and plasma column radius in the axial direction. It is shown that it is necessary to have a gigh-density plasma in order to sustain combustion waves along a pinch. At a current of 10 MA the plasma density in a plasma column main part must be over 40 gxcm-3, that is 200 times as high as the density of D-T fuel in solid state. The effect of the combustion wave propagation at the expense of thermonuclear heat release in a Z-pinch is strongly dependent on current, and at currents over 300 MA the thermonuclear combustion wave is capable of propagating from the regions of sausage-type instability upto the regions of Z-pinch with a density of solid hydrogen
