Sorption of technetium on minerals containing antimony

Description

In nuclear waste geological disposal, the long-lived fission product 99Tc, normally existing as an anion, is hardly sorbed by bedrock surrounding repository, such as granite, tuff and basalt, as well as backfill bentonite. The purpose of This paper is to search for materials with good sorption properties for TcO4-, in view of their mixing with backfill materials. It has been reported that naturally occurring minerals bournonite and tetrahedrite strongly sorb TcO4-, the authors' research results show that TcO4- is strongly sorbed by stibnite, the sorption ratio is about 2x 103ml·g-1. The presumption is that some other Sb-containing minerals should have good sorption capacities for Tc. From the various minerals of this kind available in China, jamesonite, antimony ocher, kermesite and antimonite whose source differs from source of stibnite used in previous work has been chosen in this work. Batch techniques have been used for sorption and desorption experiments
