Decontamination method and apparatus for reactor equipment

Description
Radioactive materials deposited on equipments are peeled-off and removed by blowing particulate dry ice on objects to be decontaminated. After decontamination, dry ice is discharge out of the system as gaseous carbon dioxide. Accordingly, since it is not left as wastes as in the case of conventional sand decontamination, only rusts, etc. peeled from the objects are remained as scattering products after the decontamination. They can be easily removed by filters disposed to an exhaust conduit. Since the amount of wastes is decreased, burdens on the filters can be moderated and subsequent processing devices can be simplified. This method is particularly suitable to the decontamination of turbine system equipments. (T.M.)
