Chief Inspector's guidance to inspectors: combustion processes

Description

This note is issued by the Chief Inspector of HMIP as one of a series providing guidance for processes prescribed for integrated pollution control in Regulations made under Section 2 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, (''the Act''). It is a guide to HMIP Inspectors in their assessment of an application for, or variation of, an authorisation under the Act. It should be used in conjunction with the separate general guidance. This Note may be used by applicants and other interested parties as guidance on the criteria against which Inspectors will judge; namely the acceptability of an application or variations; and the conditions to be included in an authorisation or variation notice. This Note covers the burning of solid fuel manufactured from or comprised of poultry litter primarily for the purpose of producing energy, in an appliance with a net thermal input of 3 megawatts or more, otherwise than as a process which is related to a Part B process. This process comes within the category ''Combustion processes'' described in Section 1.3 of Schedule 1 of the Regulations. (author)
