Improvements on the maintenance and operation of a 2 MV Van de Graaff accelerator

  • 1. Dept. of Physics, Univ. of Nevada, Reno, NV (United States)

Description

An existing 2 MV Van de Graaff accelerator has been improved for high beam currents, and long-term stability of the machine over a wide range of atomic and molecular projectiles, charge states and impact energies. Furthermore we present here some of our inexpensive yet effective designs for a SF6 recycling system with a nearly complete recovery, a terminal voltage and slit controller, a magnetic quadrupole doublet lens plus an electronic focussing and steering unit, various high voltage power supplies, column resistor replacements and a belt.
