Treatment of spent resin waste generated from water reactor purification by means of cementation

Treatmen of spent resin waste generated from water reactor purification by means of cementation have been carried out. Spent resin is a resin that is already saturated due to be used to capture the active ions in the reactor coolant water purification process. The waste is immobilized through the solidification process using cement matrix, for easy storage, monitoring and ensuring the safety of workers and the environment. Spent resin waste included in the concrete shell 950 l, than it was added cement of type 1 Portland and sand in the ratio of 600 kg of cement and 400 kg sand. Sampling of dough from the mixture of spent resin waste, cement and sand is required to determine the compressive strength and density of the dough results. Before being taken to a temporary storage facility, concrete shell was labelled that contains among other the surface radiation exposure, radiation exposure at a distance of 1 m, waste origin and date of the processing. During the year 2013 as many as 1,760 l spent resin waste have been processed using the 6, concrete shell 950 l. The measurements results of exposure at a distance of 1 m and the contact surface after cementation is still much smaller than that required by the IAEA. (author)
