Neutron-nucleus total cross section, 30-270 GeV

Description
In an experiment at FNAL, n-p, n-d and n-nucleus total cross sections have been measured to an accuracy of < 1%. While cross sections in hydrogen and light nuclei show the now-familiar rise above 100 GeV, cross sections in heavy nuclei are nearly constant or very slowly falling. The cross sections for A >= 9 may be fitted at high energy by A**0.77(1). (orig./BJ)

In einem Experiment am FNAL wurde der totale n-p, n-d und n-Kern Wirkungsquerschnitt mit einer Genauigkeit < 1% gemessen. Waehrend der Wirkungsquerschnitt fuer Wasserstoff und leichte Kerne den inzwischen vertrauten Anstieg oberhalb 100 GeV zeigt, ist der Wirkungsquerschnitt fuer schwere Kerne nahezu konstant oder sehr leicht abfallend. Der Wirkungsquerschnitt fuer A >= 9 laesst sich bei hohen Energien durch A**0,77(1) anpassen. (orig./BJ)Additional details
