Solid electrolytes based on tetragonal zirconium dioxide in ZrO2-Dy2O3 and ZrO2-Ho2O3 systems

Description

Solid oxygen-conducting electrolytes based on tetragonal zirconium dioxide are synthesized in the ZrO2-Dy2O3 and ZrO2-Ho2O3 systems and studied. It is found that the occurrence regions of tetragonal solid solutions in these systems correspond to R2O3 content of 2.5-4 mol%. At low temperatures the electric conductivity depends only slightly on the composition, in a high temperature region approx. 800 and higher the growth of conductivity is observed while increasing R2O3 content. Activation energy of conductivity is lower in the dysprosiium system, it infers a higher mobility of oxygen vacancies in those electrolytes. Refs. 7, figs. 5
