French upgrading of fuel: a close cooperation

This article evaluates how the nuclear fuel suppliers Fragema and FBFC have met EDF needs and requirements. The Advanced Fuel Assembly (AFA) features: use of zircaloy grids with low neutron absorption, removability of the nozzles allows an easy restoration of fuel assemblies, anti-debris filter, upgraded corrosion resistance and the introduction of new manufacturing quality control requirements. 3 figs
