Distribution of particle dimensions in island films of cerium on tungsten

Description
With the aid of an autoelectronic projector the authors have investigated the spectra of the distribution of dimensions of Ce islands with coverage from 0.15 to 10 monolayers. They show that, as in the process of deposition of Ce on as needle point of W at room temperature, so also in the process of heating of a spray-coated film with an effective thickness of about five monolayers in the region of migration temperatures there is growth of some islands and fragmentation of others. The observed process of growth of Ce films on W is closest to the mechanism of Stranskii and Krastanov
