Surveillance of nuclear explosions: the time of global approach

This paper is a presentation of the activities of the Division of Military Applications (DAM) of the CEA (the French Atomic Energy Commission) in the domain of nuclear weapon tests surveillance. The French government has ratified the 1996 United Nations Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) provided that its application will be universal and could be verified. Seismology, oceanic hydro-acoustics, infrasonic atmospheric acoustics and the transfer of radionuclides in the atmosphere are the four domains of research of the Department of Environment Analysis and Surveillance (DASE) of the CEA-DAM. The techniques and the networks used for data collection are described with their treatment in national data collection centres. (J.S.)
