Large simulators for Belgian PWRs
Description
Belgium has a heterogeneous set of PWR units that makes the problem of designing a simulator or simulators rather complicated. The key point was: 'Should a hybrid simulator valid for all of the seven units but simulating none of them properly be built or should six or seven full replica simulators be bought?' The first solution is not very suitable, especially for retraining, which is the major concern in operation. Finally, discussions within the utilities, and approval by the safety authorities, led to the decisions to build: Doel Training Center equipped with one full scope simulator replica of Doel-4 with additional features to incorporate Doel-3 as well as one partial scope simulator of the essential systems of Doel-1 and Tihange Training Center with one full scope simulator replicating Tihange-2 with some additional features to take into account the differences of Tihange-1 and -3; and one (existing) basic principle simulator. 1 tab
