Alara in planning and operating nuclear power plants

Description
The ICRP recommendations of 1991 constitute the basis for a revision of the radiation protection standards of the European Union and their subsequent conversion into national law in the EU member states. For this purpose, the mini-mization requirement contained in the German Radiation Protection Ordinance must be compared with the Alara principle. Also in Germany, the optimization concept has been put into effect for a long time already, albeit without any quantitative regulations. It is recommended that ICRP and EU standards be incorporated into German law, also in the interest of cost optimization. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Die ICRP-Empfehlungen aus dem Jahre 1991 bilden die Grundlage fuer die Ueberarbeitung der EU-Normen zum Strahlenschutz und deren spaetere Umsetzung in nationales Recht der EU-Mitgliedsstaaten. Dazu ist das in der deutschen Strahlenschutzverordnung enthaltene Minimierungsgebot mit dem Alara-Prinzip zu vergleichen. Auch in Deutschland wird der Gedanke der Optimierung seit langem in die Praxis umgesetzt. Es fehlt bislang eine quantitative Bewertung von Massnahmen, welche die Strahlenexposition der Beschaeftigten im Sinne einer Reduzierung beeinflussen. Es ist zu empfehlen, die ICRP- und EU-Standards in deutsches Recht zu uebernehmen, auch um eine Kostenoptimierung zu erreichen. (orig.)Additional details
