Description

Chromium-Nickel-Molybdenum alloy steel produced using Electric Arc Furnace was forged at different forging ratios. The forged products were normalized, rough machined; ultrasonically tested and qualified forgings were welded with similar and dissimilar steel by SMAW process using E7018 welding electrodes. Poor weld-ability was witnessed at room temperature Cracks were observed both in the weld metal and Heat Affected Zone. Various pre-heating and cooling after forging procedures were applied to avoid the cracks. The successfully welded steel was heat-treated. Mechanical tests were performed and the final product was subjected to blast testing. Problem encountered and results obtained during this experimental investigation have been presented and discussed. (author)
