Description
A new developed spectrometric borehole logging tool (ZERO PROBE) has undergone several field tests on black coal deposits in Queensland and New South Wales. The results of these tests are presented in the paper. The ZERO PROBE utilizes a 137Cs gamma-ray source with a strenght of only 1.1 MBq which is three orders of magnitude less than the source activities applied in standard commercial borehole logging tools. The field tests have proved high bed resolution of the ZERO PROBE for coal seam delineation, and also, the probe's suitablility for quantitative coal ash determination. (author). 3 refs., 9 figs
