Storage of ultracold neutrons

Description

The lecture is a review devoted to the problem of storing ultracold neutrons in closed vessels. Reflection of neutrons from vacuum-medium interface is interpreted as a result of interaction between neutrons and a certain effective potential of the neutron-nucleus interaction inside the medium. Absorption coefficient for ultracold neutrons is found, and its dependence on the asperity and degree of contamination of the surface is analyzed. Also analysed is the effect of heating-up of neutrons by acoustic vibrations of vessel walls on the confinement time of ultracold neutrons
