The Thames Valley - a radioactive breeding ground for cancer

An opponent of nuclear power, the author argues that the disposal of radioactive isotopes into sewers, and hence into streams and major waterways, i.e. the River Thames, by the Atomic Energy Research Establishment at Harwell, provides an unacceptable health risk to the general public. Such waste should, he argues, be disposed of at licensed sites. Independent research on cancer occurrence, especially childhood leukaemia, should be undertaken to establish and publicise the risk to surrounding populations living close to nuclear facilities. (UK)
