Description
The so-called Multistage Mathematical Programming (MMP) method is applied at the Halden project to develop a control algorithm for special core power distribution control. This core control approach work on the time scale of the slow xenon transient. The core is described in terms of coarse distributions of the power density and xenon on iodine concentrations. The method considers delayed effects of control actions and aims at stabilizing the core against xenon oscillations by minimizing the deviation from a setpoint power distribution in an integral manner if the setpoints for the total power are given. The MMP method can also handle hard constraints on controller actions and local power densities and their rate of change. The control algorithm has been successfully applied to control three-dimensional PWR core simulators
