NPP decommissioning in Europe

Problems of NPP decommissioning in West Europe are considered. Data on decomissioned small reactors operated in Great Britain, Italy, France, BDR, Switzerland and Sweden are given. In 1979-1983 European Community Commission performed the first five-year program of investigation into problems arising on NPP decommissioning. During this program implementation new methods of subdivision of different radioactive units using remote equipment are considered. It is expected that in the nearest future basic principles of licensing, dismantling and dismantling inspection will be determined, technology of nonradioactive material recovery from radioactive wastes was developed, methods of nuclear facility decommissioning were tested on a large scale
