Effect of thermomechanical treatment on structure and properties of the VT22 titanium alloy

Description
The effect of the temperature of a plastic deformation (800-1100 deg C) upon the structure and the properties of the grade VT22 titanium alloy was studied. The deformation was carried out by rolling at a reduction of 30 % with subsequent cooling in water. It was shown that an increase in the temperature of the plastic deformation results in an intensified softening of the alloy, the rate of said softening being maximum on transition from the (αiβ) to the β-range. After deformation at 900 deg C, the alloy comprises a metastable (α+β) structure possessing an optimum level of mechanical properties. The investigation of the variation of the alloy properties in continuous heating has indicated that at temperatures above 270 deg C, the β-solid solution decomposes with the formation of a n/α-phase, this being accompanied by the appearance of a relief on metallogrpah+c sections
