Investigation of causes and countermeasures for the leakage event from the gland section of the scram inlet valve of the control rod drive system

Description
At Higashidori Nuclear Power Station Unit 1, during the plant shutdown, the leakage occurred from the gland section of the scram inlet valve of the control rod drive system which was in the system storage. As a result of investigation of causes, we presumed that the cause was that the gland packing of the valve had a characteristic of deteriorating the sealing property in the environment specific to leakage occurred (low temperature and low pressure). This paper introduces investigation of causes and countermeasures for this event. (author)
