Description of elastic scattering of deuterons by nuclei in the adiabatic approximation

  • 1. Nuclear Research Institute, Ukrainian Academy of Sciences

Description

A model for elastic deuteron scattering is proposed according to which the deuteron during the scattering is in a quasistationary state and is characterized by an adiabatic dependence on the location of the center of mass of the deuteron. An optical potential is determined for low and medium energy elastic scattering of deuterons by the surface of nuclei (A>>2), which takes into account the possibility of deuteron disintegration in the nuclear and Coulomb fields. Criteria of applicability of the approach considered are given
