A review of plutonium measurement by passive neutron coincidence counting

Description

This paper presents a summary of a comprehensive review of the theory and practice of passive neutron coincidence counting for the determination of plutonium. It describes the methods used to extract the spontaneous fission component in a train of pulses from neutron detectors and it examines the latest methods used to correct for neutron multiplication effects. Examples of measurement stations and electronics are presented with procedures for their calibration and quality assurance. An assessment of errors under field conditions is also presented
