Particle identification by low-efficiency 'thin' chambers
- 1. Institut Fiziki Vysokikh Ehnergij, Serpukhov (USSR)
Description
Particle identification by counting the number of fired low-efficiency 'thin' chambers was tested with a proportional chamber with electrodes made of aluminized Mylar, 2 mm apart and a signal electrode between them. Pion and proton separation was measured as a function of gas pressure, high voltage and gas mixture. The results show that particles in the relativistic rise can be separated by a detector of less than 2 m length at atmospheric pressure. (orig.)
