Description

In this series of slides the author tries to shed a light of responsibility and realism on the management of the consequences of a nuclear accident in terms of emergency measures and volume of radioactive waste. The dose limits have to be defined on real criteria such as no clinical effects and no detectable stochastic effects. There are no reason to choose lower values and it will improve consistency between dose limits. The dilution effect of the contamination has to be favoured as an efficient post-accidental tool particularly for the management of contaminated soils. We must recognize that a major nuclear accident with an adequate food ban has presently no health effect and emergency measures like population evacuation can be worse than the evil if disproportionate. The role of experts is not at all to stress the public and decision makers
