Magnetic ordering in the Heusler alloys Ni2Mnsub(x)Ysub(1-x)Sn (Y = Ti, V) studied by 119Sn Moessbauer spectroscopy

Magnetic hyperfine fields acting on tin in the Heusler alloys Ni2Mnsub(x)Ysub(1-x)Sn (Y = Ti, V; x = 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0) are investigated by 119Sn Moessbauer spectroscopy. Hyperfine fields are measured close to the saturation temperatures for all of the samples, while a detailed temperature study is carried out for Ni2MnSn and Ni2Mnsub(0.2)Vsub(0.8)Sn. A phenomenological cluster model is proposed to explain the experimental data obtained in the magnetic region for Ni2Mnsub(0.2)Vsub(0.8)Sn. Strong evidence for short range Mn-Mn magnetic interaction is obtained. (author)
